Last weekend I spent my time at the Australian Body Art Carnivale in Eumundi. It was over 3 years ago that I last attended a Body Painting Competition so it was good to catch up with some old friends like Sandra Temple and Simon Catsby.
The artists and models braved the colder weather and set to work 9am Saturday by about 10.30am the shape of a design was taking place and the organisers dropped the sides of the tent to allow the public to watch the designs unfold. The first day was basically body art in two sections Sponge and Brush or Air brush. Both techniques require care and dedication and the artists talents in bringing to life their creation on a human canvases simply amazes me. The rain Saturday afternoon did not deter the public but it did make it a bit chilly for the poor models. I must say it was pleasing to see a few male models. The theme this year was Best of Oz.. so we had Pricilla Queen of the Desert, Opera Houses, Anzacs, Snakes. Frogs and the winning design by Anke Catsby…(Simon’s wife)..an EMU!
Sunday was Special Effects allowing the artists to use latex and other features to enhance and bring their designs to life. The other section on the day was Face Painting still in the Best of Oz theme.
Bonnet painting was in full swing and so too was the wearable art.
The whole weekend was a photographers paradise and now I have to decide which 4 of my 1400 photos I enter into the photography competition!
I will load more photos to my website over the next few days and hopefully feature more here.
