Yes I know, I have an obession with Marilyn Monroe and so when a model said she wanted to recreate some of the classic photos taken by Douglas Kirkland I had to say yes. In recreating the series of photos we quickly found out that the supposedly candid and unposed nature of the photos did not ring true and to be able to pose and wrap the sheet meant there needed to be some assistance. One thing going against us was the fact that when Douglas took these shots he was able to hang from a loft/mezzanie railing to take shots from above and over the bed. An eight foot high ceiling of a normal house does not afford you the luxury of getting so high. We improvised and on the whole I think we did a very good job and my Marilyn – Carly looked very much the part. I also decided to use a Tilt shift lens and in processing within lightroom used VSCO Film Presets.
